Mid Devon District Council Hosts Additional Consultation Event for Grand Western Canal Conservation Area

Due to sustained public interest, Mid Devon District Council will hold a second drop-in event regarding the Grand Western Canal Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan. The session is scheduled for Thursday, 5 September 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Phoenix House, Tiverton.

This event offers residents another opportunity to review the draft proposals, engage with council officers, and provide feedback. The ongoing public consultation aims to update the existing conservation area and management plan, focusing on:

  • Reviewing the current boundary of the Grand Western Canal Conservation Area.
  • Identifying key views and open spaces within the area and its surroundings.
  • Offering guidance on common conservation concerns.
  • Proposing enhancement opportunities for the conservation area.
  • Recognising designated and non-designated heritage assets and their settings.

Councillor Steve Keable, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Regeneration, emphasised the canal’s significance: “The Grand Western Canal is a vital part of our local heritage, and it’s essential that we take careful steps to preserve its unique character for future generations.”

The public consultation period remains open until Monday, 16 September 2024. Residents can submit comments via email to planningconsultations@middevon.gov.uk or by post to Forward Planning, Phoenix House, Phoenix Lane, Tiverton, Devon EX16 6PP.
